  1.   Hits the right notes with my 13 yr old...   |   Review by Ron Jewett

Having completed all the XTB study books with my 13 yr old we had to progress to something else. She'd really enjoyed XTB and was reluctant to move away from that style of study. However, now we've got into it 'Engage' has got a real thumbs up from her. (Posted on 10/07/10)

  2. Really enjoyable and helpful   |   Review by Susanna Wagstaff (aged 7)

Although I find some of Engage a bit tricky at times (as I am only 7 years old) I really love doing it, normally with my Mum or Dad, and it really helps me to read the Bible. I would recomend it to others who want to spend some daily time reading the Bible for thmselves. (Posted on 26/03/10)

  3.   Excellent, easy access notes   |   Review by Liz Weston

I purchased these notes for a 21 year old brand new Christian to help her start to learn how to read her Bible. They are excellent, giving clear guidance on how to read the Bible effectively and questions at just the right level.
Basic, but sound - ideal for teens or young adults who are new to Bible study. (Posted on 7/11/09)

  4.   Brilliant!   |   Review by Hilary Batty

I'm 31 and have been a Christian for as long as I can remember, and I love using Engage for my own quiet time.

Having been a Christian a long time they aren't especially useful for in-depth Bible Study. They are basic in some ways, however I don't think that this limits them to a particular age group.

What they are brilliant for is:
-A morning quiet time where you haven't got ages to be able to go in-depth
-Simplifying the context and background for the more obscure books in the Bible
-Picking out the main points of complex passages (rather than necessarily combing through every verse)
-Grounding you in a rounded understanding of the gospel and its implications for your life
-Active engagement with the Bible, through questions
-Incredibly hallenging application of the Bible to daily life (probably the most useful aspects of Engage from my perspective)

The fact that it is basic in some ways doesn't devalue it in any way for anyone, regardless of how mature in the Christian faith. You might just want to think about doing engage plus some other form of more in-depth study.

I really feel confident that if I give engage to young people I work with, that it will help them to be changed by God's word. (Posted on 12/08/09)

  5.   Very useful for 1 to 1's with youth, or in small groups   |   Review by Chris Chapman

I have found that this resource is very good for 1 to 1's it gives good discussion points, I did find, however, that the age range of 14+ is actually too high. I use this with those 11+, some of the older youth, 15ish, find it a bit too basic. Having said that, it is all dependent on the Bible knowledge of the individual. (Posted on 18/04/09)

  6.   Easy and interesting   |   Review by Anonymous

Its a great way to get stuck in to the Bible daily and doesn't take that long for those of us with busy lives. The extra things like the toolbox etc. are really helpful and look at the real issues and important questions of teenaagers. It explains passage in ways that you wouldn't think of looking at it and equips you for everyday life with passages. (Posted on 23/02/09)

  7.   detailed, interesting and thought provoking   |   Review by Alex Jones

This book/magazine/whatever it is is a fantastic in depth look at the bible which teaches lessons which we can easily apply to our daily life. I personally found this really got me interested in the bible (only thing that so far has managed to do so). And thanks to it's short prayer advice at the bottom of each days article it has managed to get me praying on a regular basis about the important things in my life. Thanks for keeping my religious flame alight (Posted on 27/11/08)

  8.   Bright, simple, practical, but not for me.   |   Review by Lewis Crown

I'd been hoping for something like this for a while. Bible notes which combined daily notes which got you thinking, with opportunity to find out more when you really get into it, and articles dealing with real issues from a Christian perspective. This then, should have been ideal.
Unfortunately, I'm 17, and although I technically fall into the target age range for 'Engage', it seemed a bit simple and, well, young for me. Not that the notes weren't good. I just felt the standard notes could have gone a bit deeper, been a bit more meaty, while still retaining their thought-provoking, relevant approach.
I also thought that there could have been more articles, seeing as you only get 4 copies a year, you don't get through many topics. It might have been better to have one article per week or several per month so they're spaced out in the notes.
Another moan would be the shape/size. It's annoying. Sure it looks pretty good, but it's not great for the formatting inside, it's too thin, and that also makes it harder to use. A more magazine-like format as is used in Discover and Explore is to me, far more practical. And although the neon green and royal blue styling inside certainly can wake you up in the morning, they make pretty hard reading.
In conclusion, these are good notes. They're accessible without being too heavy, and they bring in a good thing with the articles.
It's about 30% Explore, 10% The Briefing, 60% Discover. I'd recommend it for younger teens, but not older ones. The idea you could read through the bible in 5 years is good, but these notes won't, in my opinion, last 5 years, and I'd say they were best suited for 13-16 year olds.
Ah well. The search goes on. (Posted on 24/11/08)

  9.   Great   |   Review by Peter Fischbacher

I liked the variety of what was in each day and the extra bits at the end, also its something that you could easily give to your friends
One tiny problem is that its nearly imppossible to get it to stay open!
