Description

Many people assume that the story of the baby in the manger at Bethlehem is just another made-up fantasy for kids.

In this concise book, respected apologist Rebecca McLaughlin outlines the evidence that Jesus was a real person, explaining the reliability of the Bible’s accounts of his life and why believing in a virgin birth is not as ridiculous as it might sound.

This book shows that there is a rational basis for the belief that the world’s most famous story is fact, not fantasy—and how those events in history can infuse our lives today with meaning and joy.

Rebecca McLaughlin gained a PhD from Cambridge University and a theology degree from Oak Hill Seminary in London before working at The Veritas Forum. She is the author of the award-winning Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World’s Largest Religion and a regular contributor for The Gospel Coalition.

Endorsement written for Is Christmas Unbelievable? (ebook)

Don’t let the size of this book fool you. It may be small, but the content is BIG. My friend Rebecca has written a book for seeker and believer alike. Bring your questions, concerns, fears, and doubts. Rebecca, like a close friend, takes you by the hand and addresses them beautifully in this book.

This is the ideal book if you are a sceptic. Rebecca McLaughlin is very much in tune with the big questions many of us ask. She cuts her way through the common misconceptions surrounding the Christian message and demonstrates convincingly why the idea that God visited our planet is far from a Star Wars or Harry Potter fantasy.

Rebecca graciously addresses our hesitations about the incredible claims of Christianity, and specifically Christmas. Her friendly and sincere tone complements her call for us to seriously consider and believe the greatest story ever told—a story that extends beyond Christmas.

“Excellent summary of our hope in Christ, perfect for Christmas!”

I bought several copies to include with Christmas cards for seeking or unsaved friends. It's well-written, engaging, and perfect for asserting biblical faith in an increasingly secular culture and holiday. Solid apologetics presentation for anytime of the year, but especially at Christmas. Highly recommend!

“Clear, concise and compelling”

I found this book to be confirming for my personal faith and compelling for the skeptics and unconvinced. I bought 50 more copies and gave 40 away this season. I will probably buy another 50 next year and start earlier. Thank you Ms. McLaughlin and Good Books for putting this excellent resource in my hands.

“A great Christmas resource.”

A book that can be profitable for christians and nonbelievers alike. Its brief size but rich content (apologetic arguments, gospel presentation) makes it a good Christmas present to offer!

“A great book to give to your not yet believer friends”

A great book which answers 4 fundamental questions about the Christmas story which a sceptic may have. Well written with contemporary illustrations means it's appropriate for a wide age group.

“A Christmas cracker!”

This short book is ideal for anyone who believes God and science to be incompatible. The author presents her arguments in a knowledgeable yet easy to follow way. Her use of comparisons and illustrations from popular books and TV series captures the reader’s attention and imagination, and helps to hit home her points. The booklet offers an excellent overview of Gospel truths, as well as convincing arguments for the supernatural events of the Bible (i.e. creation, virgin birth and resurrection). It is also a very helpful resource for Christians in dealing with difficult topics of conversation. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this booklet and heartily recommend it!

“Short and to the point to explain and defend the Christmas story.”

This short, yet compelling book is sure to encourage believers and challenge nonbelievers. Rebecca McLaughlin uses modern-day pop culture references, which honestly weren’t always my favorite, but they lended themselves to help the reader in understanding her points.

She is able to pack a lot of information into just a few pages for each of the 4 questions she addresses regarding the Christmas story that equips the reader with information to defend the Christmas story and argues why it is all true. This is a great little book to have on hand for apologetics for for believers and would be great to give to, or read with, a skeptic.

I also appreciated the end notes with the abundance of resources to dig deeper, especially since this was such a short book.

“Finding Answers to Questions About Christmas”

Christmas is an important celebration for believers. It’s a time we remember a baby born in human form, the fulfillment of prophecies, and how power is found in humility. If we’ve grown up in the church, Luke 2 is nearly committed to memory, and I wonder if our familiarity prevents us from considering the mystery and miracles of the Christmas events, because they’re truly astounding!

In Rebecca McLaughlin's short book, "Is Christmas Unbelievable?" she answers four questions:
-Was Jesus even a real person?
-Can we take the Gospels seriously?
-How can you believe in a virgin birth?
-Why does it matter?

She shares with us the evidence that Jesus was a real person, that the gospels were not made up, and that the miracles of Christmas haven’t been disproved by science. With an encouraging tone, she addresses these honest questions and equips us as believers with reasons why this celebration is pivotal for our lives today.

“You see, if there is a God who made us and loves us, that’s wonderful news. It means that our lives are meaningful, that there are such things as good and evil, and that justice and love will win in the end.”

Our lives are given purpose and meaning through the life, death and resurrection of Christ, and our celebration of his birth points us to the gospel.

If you’re looking for a short book to answer a few questions about Christmas, this one is for you!

“Read and See”

How can we share the Christmas story? In Is Christmas Unbelievable? Rebecca McLaughlin answers four questions everyone should ask about the world’s most famous story.

In this quick yet compelling book, McLaughlin gives evidence to prove the incredible claims of Christianity. Was Jesus even a real person? Can we take the Bible seriously? How can you believe in a virgin birth? These are all questions that are frequently asked of our faith.

Read and See

McLaughlin writes with authenticity and eagerness. I appreciated the endnotes to encourage further searching. There is a genuine concern and care for the questions being asked. Pop-culture references help make connections, including The Big Bang, Harry Potter, and House M.D.

This book is the perfect gift to give away. Unbelievers will be challenged. Believers will be encouraged. Read and see that Jesus Christ and the Christmas story is unbelievably true.

I received a media copy of Is Christmas Unbelievable? and this is my honest review.

“warm apologetics”

I read Rebecca's book 'Confronting Christianity' early this year and found it so well written, and one that would be easy to give away. However, the price makes it tricky to buy in bulk.

But here's one you can get for a quid per copy! I'm planning on ordering a load for the church where I serve this Christmas. Christians reading it will be encouraged and strengthened and, I think, confident to give it away to those who don't know Jesus.

I think Rebecca does two things exceptionally well:

1 - she writes excellently
2 - the way she deals with fairly classic apologetics questions is never cold and stark, but always warm and connects well with people as people, not just brains on sticks.

Also really pleased to see the first evangelistic Christmas book for years that has a cover that is neither green nor red!
