Description

Updated and revised edition 2015

It's the hot topic of the moment. Christians, the church and the Bible seem to be out of step with modern attitudes towards homosexuality. And there is growing hostility towards those who hold a different view to the culture's. So is God homophobic? And how do we relate to both Christians and non-Christians who experience same-sex attraction?

In this short, simple book, Sam Allberry wants to help confused Christians understand what God has said about these questions in the scriptures. Drawing on his own experience, he offers a positive and liberating way forward through the debate.

This revised and updated version includes answers to some new questions, including:
• Should Christians attend gay weddings?
• Isn't the Christian view of sexuality dangerous and harmful?
• Is it sinful to experience same-sex attraction?

Commendations

The gospel is good news, for homosexuals too. The gospel doesn't define us by our temptations but by the righteousness of Christ. This book sets forth the biblical case. The author captures perfectly the gospel's call to repentance and offer of mercy. Read this book and consider how God is calling you to love, in word and in deed, all of those around you.

Empathetic & wise, learned and clear, hopeful and kind - this book by Sam Allberry is on a topic that can be very challenging.  It would be helpful for just about anyone to read.

Is God Anti-Gay?

Nate Collins, The Gospel Coalition, July 15th 2013

In this brief but important book, Sam Allberry combines pastoral wisdom, authentic autobiography, and sound exegesis to provide Christians with a helpful introduction to the topic of homosexuality.... continue reading

For and Against?

Philemon Tracker, Evangelicals Now

Sam's testimony is that biblical faith is a source of great comfort and joy. What comes across is a pastor’s heart for people. Sam offers practical pointers for Christians who are struggling with the issue. There is also some helpful guidance for churches that, perhaps more frequently than ever before, are being called upon to support such believers in their life journeys. All this wisdom is set squarely in the context of a succinct exposition of the relevant Bible texts.... continue reading

“Great little book”

This great little book, written by Sam Allberry, is an honest, biblical-based look at how we as Christians should look at the cultural issue of "being gay". Easy to read and understand but hard-hitting in it's honesty of what it means for a person with same-sex attraction to "take up their cross".

“Very helpful ”

I found the book helpful regarding difficult questions about SSA. Knowing how to connect with these people so that right relationships happen.

“Gentle and Convicting”

Given the purpose of the "Questions Christians Ask" series to provide brief introductions to various topics, Mr. Allberry does a fantastic job of addressing homosexuality from a Christian perspective! He is gentle in speaking to anyone in his audience, yet he has well-grounded convictions. Well done.

“A lovingly and thoughtfully written book.”

Having recently been asked to write a review for this book I have reread it very carefully. It was encouraging that it is written by a practising pastor who experiences same sex attraction and has had to put his understanding of the Gospel into practice on his own behalf and not found it easy. I found the continuous reference to what the Bible has to say about sexuality helpful and I could follow the logic that Sam used to come to his conclusion that God cannot condone any sexual sin, along with deeply loving all those of us who sin or have sinned with regards to this aspect of imperfect human nature. I was very encouraged by his approach to the pastoral care, formal and/or informal, of those who choose to share with others their own struggles in the area of same sex attraction and the emphasis on the uniqueness of each person's experiences.

“Good introduction to the topic”

(Review written for 'Is God anti-gay? (ebook)')

Sam Allberry gives a thoughtful and compassionate introduction to a topic that has become a flashpoint for many. The book is thoroughly Biblical and very pastoral. While some may have an issue with its brevity (you can finish the book in one sitting), I believe it actually makes it more accessible. I highly recommend this for those who are new to the discussion on homosexuality.

“An excellent clear kind explanation.”

I feel this little book is so easy to read, so full of compassion from Sam who is fighting his SSA but he is also willing to listen to what God is saying on this matter and to be obedient. I am full of admiration for him and thank him for helping me to read the appropriate passages which all make sense. It is wonderful to know that God loves each one of us and that comes across in this book. Excellent for sharing with others who would be helped by it in their understanding of this topic whether they have SSA or not.

“Thoroughly faithful and clearly pastoral”

Living and serving as a pastor in Brighton, the issue of what God thinks about gay people is particularly close to home. Sam Allberry has written an excellent little book on this topic, being both thoroughly faithful and clearly pastoral.
I would recommend this to anyone - from teenager up - who wants to know what God thinks about this subject, and wants to respond in a loving and biblical way. Whether gay or straight, this book provides the reader with essential wisdom from the Bible in supporting this intensively personal issue.

“Excellent little book”

I thought this was a very clear little book n the subject of marriage and self-same relationships. It was written by someone who struggles with same-sex attraction, but who is very clear that as a Christian he has to be a "eunuch for the Lord".
He is very clear that God made man and woman for marriage and very clear on that issue. He challenges us as a church to accept and love a "gay" person as much as we would anyone and that a gay couple should not be treated any differently from a couple who are "co-habit ting". Always love the sinner, but hate the sin. All should be made welcome and the gospel should always come first, allowing God to do the work of convicting and converting. A book for all, but also would give hope to someone struggling with these issues.

“Clear, concise, compassionate”

Thoroughly biblical, very well reasoned, most instructive - highly recommended.

“worth reading ”

This book is clear, biblical and sensitive too those who are homosexual whilst upholding the biblical view that homosexual activity is a sin like murder or greed and I have given a copy to a grandma whose grandson came out and she was encouraged to keep on loving and praying for him.
