Beautiful, colourful and wonderfully truth-full.
Why is the Bible 'the best book to read'? Through the endearing character of Alby the squirrel, young children can be introduced to the concept of a book which outstrips every other in its excitement, depth, power and authorship. Deceptively simple, capturing profound truth.
Alby’s amazing book” is a wonderful means of helping little ones glimpse the richness of Scripture. It grabs the imagination, tells a good story and points the reader to the love of God. One to be kept in children’s easy reach!
I have enjoyed every book that I've ordered from Good Book Company so I was surprised and saddened by Alby's Amazing Book. My first qualm was that the book encourages children to place themselves as the hero of the story (i.e., Alby imagines himself as David slaying Goliath). Instead of pointing to Jesus as the hero, it presents a child-centered view of the Bible. Second, and more shocking, the illustration of Adam and Eve in the garden shows a naked Eve laying her head in naked Adam's lap. While this would have been entirely appropriate in a sinless world; in our sexualized society, the illustration is provocative. As a Sunday School teacher, I'm not comfortable showing this to my class and as a parent, it raises questions that are too early for the intended age reading this picture book. I have shown the illustration to other adults involved in our church's children's ministry and they all agree that the picture is inappropriate.
As a faith educator, I couldn't be more excited about this book! I just wish it could be larger so that we could share it with a class as a read aloud. Hoping the publisher will take note and print a larger edition for us!
A lovely book, with pretty pictures, but surprisingly small. A bit disappointing.
A beautifully presented book, inviting the reader into lots of imaginary journeys. A pleasure to read. Stunning artwork. Ideal as a gift.
