What We Should Think About Dawkins

Carl Laferton | 26 Oct 2011

“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4 v 4).

“No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12 v 3).

I am no better than Prof Dawkins. He is no more sinful or ignorant of the truth than I, left to myself, would be. It is only by God’s grace that I am able to understand the truth about who Jesus is. So…

• I will thank God for removing my spiritual blindness by the work of His Spirit, so that I can know the truth and be set free by the truth.

• I will pray for Richard Dawkins. He does not deserve to see the truth, but neither did I. And the Spirit who gave me eyes to see can do the same for Him.

• I will certainly not hate Prof Dawkins, any more than I hate my own sinful nature. I will love him, because I want to be like Jesus, and I know that Jesus loves the unlovely because I know He loves me.
